Nassau CC Wrestler's in their First Week of
Competition
This past week the
Nassau Community College Wrestling team participated in the College of
New Jersey Open, where many of the wrestlers had their first college
wrestling experience. Nassau had three champions, 141lbs Kodie
Silvestri, 149lbs Brian Herold and 285lbs Corey James. They also had a
few wrestlers finish third, 125lbs Jonathan Murray, 133lbs Ricardo Gomez
and Mike Doria (both co third place finishers) and 184lbs Jesus
Cartagena. Ricardo Gomez wrestled up a weight class and lost to Jaret
Anonogus from Navy in overtime. Nassau’s next meet is the East
Stroudsburg Open.
This past week former
Nassau wrestlers competed all over the country. Former NJCAA National
Chris Notte wrestled for the first time at 125lbs and won the Central
Oklahoma Championship. Chris is currently ranked 10th for the Cowboys
of Oklahoma State by the Amateur Wrestling News. Bobby Ward, the 2009
NJCAA runner-up, opened his season with a win over
Turtogtokh Luvsandorj of the Citadel
6-4, as North Carolina State won their first match of the season 21-18.
Brandon Williamson, another NJCAA National Champion, established
himself as the 285lb starter at West Virginia University with two
wrestle off wins.
At the Division 3 level, two former NJCAA All Americans, Steve Perez and
Eduardo Delgado started their 09 season off at the Ithaca Invitational.
Steve, wrestling for SUNY Cortland, finished second while his former
Nassau teammate, Eduardo Delgado, now at Hunter, finished 5th.
